منشور: 2025-06-05

الملخص

This research investigates the influence of the first language (L1) on second language (L2) acquisition and its implications for English Language Teaching (ELT). Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study examined the relationship between participants' L1 backgrounds and their L2 vocabulary acquisition and grammatical development. Quantitative analyses revealed significant influences of lexical and grammatical similarities between the L1 and L2 on participants' L2 acquisition, while qualitative findings highlighted the complexities of L1 and L2 interaction, including the transfer of knowledge and skills from the L1 to the L2. The study contributes to the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) by providing a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted relationship between the L1 and L2 and its impact on L2 learning processes. The findings have important implications for ELT methodologies, emphasizing the need for tailored and learner-centered approaches that consider the diverse linguistic backgrounds and learning experiences of learners.
