Abstract

This research entitled " The Scientific Movement in the Levant during the Islamic Conquest: The Transmission of prophetic Hadith as a Model" is a historical study that addresses an important aspect of the intellectual activity in the Levant during the period of Islamic expansion namely, the narration and recording of the Prophetic Hadith. This constituted a significant dimension of the scholarly renaissance that emerged in the region at that time.

The study is divided into two main sections. The first section provides an overview of the situation in al-Sham before and after the Islamic conquest. It includes two subtopics: the first discusses the living conditions and demographic realities of al-Sham, while the second examines the prevailing cultural patterns in the region, their diversity, and the Muslim attitude toward them following the conquest.

The second section also consists of two subtopics, both focusing on the Prophetic Hadith as a model of the scientific activity that characterized al-Sham during that period. The first subtopic is devoted to the narration of the Hadith—its beginnings, its narrators among the Companions, the Followers, and the Followers of the Followers (may Allah be pleased with them all)—as well as the stages through which its conditions and criteria evolved over time. The second subtopic deals with the documentation of the Hadith, exploring its stages, causes, requirements, methods, and forms, as well as the distinctive features that characterized the process of Hadith compilation in al-Sham compared with other Islamic regions.

This study seeks to underscore the significance of the scholarly the significance of the scholarly renaissance that accompanied the Islamic conquest of the Levant " al-Sham", a movement whose positive effects were felt throughout the region.

Furthermore, the study aims to shed light on the central role that the Prophetic Hadith played within this intellectual movement, alongside other sciences such as Qur'anic studies, recitation, exegesis, medicine, astronomy, and more fields that flourished during this era of scientific and cultural vitality.

Finally, the study endeavors to trace the efforts of Muslims during the Islamic Conquests to elevate the level of knowledge across all domains, documenting their remarkable contributions. In doing so, it aspires to inspire contemporary efforts to emulate their example, so that we too may revive our intellectual and cultural vigor and rejoin the march of civilization in this modern age of science and knowledge especially as we are the nation of "Read".
