Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications on enhancing users’ experience in electronic libraries, focusing on faculty members at the Faculty of Medicine, Omar Al-Mukhtar University. The significance of this research lies in highlighting the growing role of intelligent technologies in supporting academic and medical education, while providing more efficient and accurate access to scholarly information. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, with data collected through a questionnaire distributed to a sample of 133 faculty members across different academic departments.

Findings revealed a high level of awareness regarding the importance of AI in libraries, yet several challenges were identified, including insufficient institutional awareness of AI services, the need for simplified user interfaces, lack of adequate technical support and training, as well as concerns about data privacy. Participants also expressed a strong interest in developing recommendation systems, introducing voice search features, and integrating library services with Learning Management Systems (LMS).

The study recommends:

  1. Increasing awareness of AI-based services through training programs and workshops.
  2. Enhancing user interfaces and recommendation systems tailored to academic needs.
  3. Establishing a dedicated technical support unit for immediate assistance.
  4. Strengthening data protection policies to build trust in electronic library services.
  5. Ensuring integration between electronic library services and LMS platforms.

In conclusion, this research provides practical insights that can help academic libraries in Libya leverage AI technologies to improve the quality of education and scientific research within the academic environment.
