Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of information technology (IT) in enhancing academic and administrative performance at Al-Sayed Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Senousi University in Libya, with a focus on its impact on students and faculty members in the Department of Library and Information Science. The study reflects the rapid transformations in the use of IT within educational institutions, where it has become a key tool for supporting learning, developing teaching skills, and improving the quality of administrative processes.

The research problem centers on the extent to which IT influences academic and administrative performance, considering challenges related to infrastructure, training, and resources. The study seeks to answer key questions regarding the development of faculty skills, the challenges faced in the practical application of IT, and the proposed solutions to enhance its effectiveness.

The research employs a descriptive-analytical survey method, integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 26 students and 27 faculty members in the Department of Library and Information Science at the Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar branch in the city of Al-Bayda.

Preliminary results indicate that IT significantly contributes to improving academic and administrative efficiency, enhancing learning quality, and increasing students’ engagement with digital content. It also supports faculty in organizing their teaching and research activities more effectively. However, the university faces challenges related to insufficient digital infrastructure, the need for ongoing training programs, and bridging the gap in technical skills among users.

The study concludes that the structured use of IT, coupled with continuous technical support and training, can enhance the quality of education and administrative performance, establishing an integrated digital learning environment that fosters innovation and active participation for both students and faculty members.
