Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the professional training needs of faculty members at Omar Al-Mukhtar University and examine their relationship with faculty awareness and practice of modern university teaching strategies. The study also sought to identify the main barriers that may hinder the implementation of these strategies in higher education.

The study adopted a descriptive correlational approach, and a structured questionnaire was used as the main instrument for data collection. The questionnaire covered four major dimensions: professional training needs, awareness of modern teaching strategies, the extent of practicing these strategies, and the perceived barriers to their implementation.

The results revealed a high level of professional training needs among faculty members, indicating their growing awareness of the importance of continuous professional development in response to the rapid changes in higher education. The findings also showed a high level of awareness of modern teaching strategies, while the level of actual practice was relatively high but slightly lower than the level of awareness. In addition, several barriers to implementing modern teaching strategies were identified, including limited institutional incentives, insufficient specialized training programs, and inadequate technological resources within the university environment.

Furthermore, the results indicated statistically significant positive correlations between professional training needs and both faculty awareness and practice of modern teaching strategies. These findings highlight the importance of developing targeted professional development programs that address faculty members’ actual training needs and support the effective integration of modern teaching strategies in university teaching.
